Customer Service Program
In May 2018, Alice graduated from the Generation X CLAP@JC Customer Service Program as part of its first cohort. She is currently working as a front desk customer services representative at Two MacDonnell Road.
“I used to work in a retail outlet. Although I was promoted to assistant, I never gave up on my dream of joining the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, I did not have the right academic qualifications, and most training courses were also too long. Hence, I never really had the opportunity to pursue my dream. When I came across the Generation X CLAP@JC program, I decided to enrol in the course as it was not too long and the content was suitable for me.”
“Initially, I was not aware about my strengths and weaknesses. During the mock interview, my instructor helped me identify my shortcomings and strengths. This enabled me to better understand myself.”
“Our mentors would help customise our resumes and explore our hidden qualities during CV360 sessions. Through this process, I learnt how to present my strengths on my resume so that employers can have a better understanding of my skills.”
“At first, I was not used to working at Two MacDonnell Road. As the environment and industry were new to me, I felt apprehensive and struggled from time to time. Nonetheless, I continued to work hard to acquire practical skills and eventually became competent in my job.”
“My biggest takeaway from the program was learning to persevere. It was not easy to take classes in the morning and then work in the afternoon. However, with perseverance, I was able to join the hospitality industry and achieve my goals. It does not matter if you don’t have the qualifications or work experience – what is more important is to persevere in pursuing your passion and fulfilling your dreams.”
