“From Career Stagnation to a Fresh Start – How Allen Became a STEM Education Program Designer?”

Allen, who previously worked as a skilled worker  in the interior design industry, found himself unemployed during the pandemic. This made him realize the need to enhance his skills and prepare for future employment. He mentioned Generation’s program caught his interest, and the program content was able to meet his needs for further learning and development. Determined to forge a new path, he made the bold decision to enroll in Generation’s Junior Data Engineer program, kickstarting his professional transformation.

He described the 12-week Generation course as the solid foundation for his new career. Today, Allen works as a programmer that writes STEM education programming codes for schools.  His employer saw value in the Python knowledge and logical thinking skills he had acquired through the program, which proved instrumental in tackling the challenges he faced in his current role. 

Generation’s curriculum emphasizes the importance of maintaining a lifelong learning mindset. Toward the end of 2023, Allen together with his classmate participated in the “Hong Kong Science Park x AWS DeepRacer” competition and won a scholarship.  This experience enabled him to continuously refine his industry expertise and pursue ongoing professional development.

Allen spoke fondly of the program’s focus on workplace soft skills (Behavioral Skills and Mindset, i.e. BSM). He found the dynamic, engaging content and immersive role-playing activities particularly impactful, as they taught him to consider different perspectives and actively listen to others’ insights – skills he has applied not only in his work, but also in his personal life. For Allen, this transformation has been a remarkable leap forward.

To Allen, Generation’s program is about: Leap, New Beginning, and Happiness. Through the JDE program, he has embarked on a significant career transition, one that has left him feeling fulfilled and excited about the promising new chapter ahead.
