Highlights of 2023
Here are some key achievements and statistics from 2023 that highlight our impact:
- We celebrated a significant milestone at the end of 2023: Generation had graduated over 100,000 learners, who had, in turn, earned $1 billion in life-changing wages. As of today those numbers are 117,000 and $1.4 billion.
- 30,010 people graduated from our employment programmes in 2023. That’s 8,000 more than the prior year!
- Within a year of graduating, 70%+ of employed graduates are earning above a living wage in 11 of our countries.
- Two to five years after graduation, most alumni remain employed — 62% of those in lower-middle-income countries, 83% in high-income countries, and 91% in upper-middle-income countries.
- 58% of employed alumni in lower-middle-income countries earn above a living wage two to five years after graduation, along with 98% in upper-middle-income countries, and 74% in high-income countries.
- Over 80% of alumni report positive personal well-being outcomes, and 84% want to give back to Generation.
In addition, Generation was recognised as one of the top 200 social good organisations in the world and received two Anthem Awards.
Expanding Our Reach
In 2023, Generation took strides in expanding our impact, especially in the tech sector and for midcareer professionals. We published original research on the urgent need for tech skills and the ways to bridge the gap between job seekers and entry-level career opportunities.
We also undertook new research around midcareer professionals, in partnership with the OECD, to understand the unique challenges and opportunities they face in today’s labour market.
We offer programmes to prepare and place people in 35+ professions across five sectors, from technology and healthcare to green jobs, skilled trades, and customer service and sales. Learn more about our employment programmes here.
Meaningful Careers and Sustained Well-Being
At Generation, we are deeply committed to placing people into meaningful careers and supporting their sustained well-being, creating transformative impacts on lives and communities. We help bridge the skills gap by offering tailored training that equips individuals with both the technical and behavioural skills necessary to excel in the modern labour market. By partnering closely with employers, we ensure our training is relevant and meets industry demands, resulting in higher job placement rates and long-term career success.
Our support extends beyond job placement. We provide ongoing mentorship and resources to help individuals navigate their new roles and continue their professional growth. This comprehensive support system includes career coaching, peer networks, and a long-lasting community that fosters a sense of stability and resilience.
The impact of our work is far-reaching. For individuals, it means greater economic security and personal fulfilment. Families benefit from increased financial stability, which can enhance overall quality of life and educational opportunities for children. Communities grow stronger as more residents secure stable employment, reducing poverty and fostering economic growth. On a broader scale, helping people find meaningful work contributes to a more robust and inclusive economy, where diverse talents drive innovation and progress.
