By coaching learners on compassion-based eldercare, we can improve the quality of life among the silver generation. Modelled after interactive teaching methods from abroad, this program incorporates practical sessions and scenario-based simulations, enabling learners to cultivate higher levels of empathy when dealing with difficult situations. In line with industry developments, instructors will also be covering the latest Geron-technologies and applications relating to clothing, food, living environment and transportation. Employer partners whom we have partnered with on this program will also be providing job interview opportunities for eldercare-related positions.

Guardians of the Silver Age – Cohort 5

Study period: 8 Weeks
Program Period: 22 November 2021 to 14 January 2022 (8 weeks)
Time: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (1 hour for lunch)
Program Location: YMCA College Of Careers (23 Waterloo Rd, Yau Ma Tei)
Skill Training Institute: Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education (325-329 Lai Chi Kok Rd, Sham Shui Po)

It helps you to develop positive behavioral skills and mindsets, to start a long-term career in the eldercare industry. The career prospects of “Guardians of the Silver Age” are diversified, including: day care centre, nursing home, and home care service.
Graduates will have a wide range of career options, such as: Personal Care Worker, Health Care Assistant, Rehabilitation Assistant, Home Care Worker, Management Trainee in Nursing Home, Geron-technologies Ambassador.

    Class Begins

    You will meet your instructor and mentors to learn about the program schedule in the coming weeks and get to know your classmates. Every day you will learn new skills to gear up yourself!


  • Aged 18-50 and be passionate about a career in the eldercare industry
  • No experience or qualifications required
  • Good command of Chinese and basic command of English
  • Basic computer/ technology knowledge
  • Caring, enthusiastic, and willing to get along with the elderly for longer period
  • Expect personal growth
  • Passed basic language and eldercare knowledge assessments and interview
  • Legally permitted to work in Hong Kong
  • Ready to enter the eldercare industry upon the completion of the training and will not consider taking other full-time courses in the next 12 months.
